Dune's Cat Media Fanpage! - WIP
Mrrrow, welcome! Cats are one of my favorite animals, so I wanted to make a page where I could share some of my favorite cat-themed books, games, animations, and more. Featuring mostly fictional cats, that is!
Cats in Animation
- The Aristocats (Disney)
- This classic Disney animated movie is not without its flaws, but I find it is generally a very charming watch. Lovely traditional animation of cats (and a few other animals, but mostly cats).
- The Warrior Cats Fan Animation Community
- The Warrior cats book series has inspired a huge fan following, and over many years has even cultivated a fan animation community! You can find LOTS of fanmade animations on youtube from beginner and experienced animators alike. Sometimes they do MAPs (multiple animator projects) where lots of people each contribute a few seconds of animation to create a longer animation to a whole song. Note: The content of the books often contains violent, bloody cat fights, so some of the animations might have that, too.
- The Cat Returns is an anime film (studio Ghibli, Japanese 2D animated) that is chock full of cats! Weird but fun, I find it charming, light-hearted, and enjoyable.
- Garfield media franchise has various animated television and CGI movies
Cat Videogames
- Petz Catz 2 on Nintendo Wii
- This game is not what you'd expect... No, it isn't a lackluster, mediocre pet care simulation game. It is in fact a quest-based action rpg with a complete story! An adventure game! With a final boss and everything!! Okay, it's not the greatest game in the world, but you're in for a LOT more than you'd expect. I genuinely really loved this game! Ubisoft slapped the "Petz" brand onto it, but it's actually a completely unrelated game from the original Petz computer games. This game was made by a Japanese developer, and its original title translates to "Kitten and the Magic Hat".
If you must... there is also a dog version of this game, Petz Dogz 2, that is exactly the same except they're dogs instead of cats. And finally... this is an E-rated game, but there's something extremely funny: "Press 1 to strip." You can give your cat player character clothes and accessories, and you can take it all off by pressing 1. It's just a bad translation, really they should've gone with something like "Press 1 to remove all." What's even weirder is that you can take the other NPC's clothes away, too, by giving them new clothes as a gift. Very silly.
- Cattails on Nintendo Switch
- So, this game is literally Stardew Valley x Warriors. If you've read the Warrior cats book series and you wished you could play it, OR if you've ever played Stardew Valley and wished you could play as a cat, then THIS is the game for you! Pretty cute and simple, inexpensive, and fun.
Cat Boardgames & Tabletop Games
- Cat Crimes by ThinkFun Games
- For ages 8 to adult, this is a fun single-player logic puzzle game themed around cats! It's a whodunnit mystery, kind of like Clue, but really it's a series of placement puzzles. As in, you get a set of details, and there's only one correct configuration for how the cats are placed at the scene of the crime, and that will tell you who's the culprit. (The crimes are such feindish deeds as... who knocked over the fishbowl. That sort of vibe.) Very cute, relaxing, brain-tingling fun. The pieces and packaging feel pretty nice, too.
Cat Books
- Warriors (also called Warrior Cats) by Erin Hunter
- This is perhaps the most famous cat-themed fiction book series of our time, at least for kids in the U.S. It's about a pet cat who runs away to live with the wild forest cats and become a "warrior". The cats live in territorial clans and frequently fight one another in order to survive. It's a very action-packed series, quite violent and rife with tragedy. Grab the popcorn, lol. If you like it, there are a LOT of books. A lot. Like, 5 series' worth??
Warriors... I must say, in my opinion, it was mostly a delight to read as a child, but some of its glaring problems (such as, white savior tropes/apropriation of Native American cultures; also, some narrative problems I have) make it sit less pleasantly with me as an adult. It's not necessarily "wrong" to like or read it, but if you do, you should take some time to read this carefully-written testimony by Native American fans of Warriors and listen to their perspective on why its tropes are harmful.
- Varjak Paw by S. F. Said
- The Thirteenth Cat by --
- Sneakers the Seaside Cat is a delightful children's picture book about a housecat on a family trip to the ocean
Live-action Cat Movies and Television
- Kedi - a charming documentary about the street cats living alongside people in Istanbul
Other Cat-o-rific Media
- Funny Youtube Video of a Veterinarian Demonstrating How to Securely Hold a Cat: Squish That Cat!
My Favorite Fictional Cats
- Big the Cat and Blaze the Cat from the Sonic media franchise
- Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch
- Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service
- Garfield shall be listed here not out of love, but respect
- Pusheen the Cat is a merch/media franchise similar to Hello Kitty that got its start on tumblr as cute and simple gifs
- Hello Kitty, mascot of Sanrio... she's like my 5th or 6th-favorite sanrio character but whatever
- Tom from Tom and Jerry
- Pussyfoot, the sweet kitten under the dog, Marc Antony's, tender protection from Looney Tunes
Cat Pokemon, Digimon, etc.
- Pokemon: Delcatty and Purugly are my faves, but there's also: Litten, Torracat, Incineroar, Sprigatito, Espurr, Meowstic, Skitty, Meowth, Persian, Alolan Meowth and Persian, Galarian Meowth, Perrserker, Glameow, Litleo, Pyroar, Shinx, Luxio, Luxray, Solgaleo, ARGUABLY Raikou (looks like a tiger or a sabertooth tiger), ARGUABLY Absol (panther-like), Purrloin, and Liepard; Espeon is sort of a fox but VERY cat-like, too. Also some people might consider Zangoose and Sneasel, Weavile, and Sneasler to be cats, but I am of the opinion that they're solidly mongoose and weasels, respectively. MAYBE Zeraora... there's a lot of ambiguity here, lol.
- Digimon: Gatomon is really great, but there's also Meikuumon (Maine Coon mon?) and probably a ton of other cats.
- Neopets: Kougra, Meowclops, ARGUABLY Wocky (could also be a fox)
Fictional Characters who love cats

- someone from animorphs probably (book series)

- Kipo the animated netflix series (spoiler warning): Kipo can transform in part or whole into a giant pink jaguar
